Council Update
2025 State of the City Held on March 18
The 2025 State of the City was another excellent opportunity to inform community members about the work being done in Ridgefield.
First, we held an Open House featuring informational tables from Communications and Community Events, Police, Water and Stormwater, Parks, Capital Projects, Finance, and Community Development. Community members engaged in informative conversation with City Council, Planning Commission members, Parks Board members, and staff about current projects and initiatives.
At 6 PM, we moved into the Performing Arts Center for the formal program. Mayor Cole began by welcoming attendees, recognizing the work of the City Manager and Management Team, as well as expressing gratitude to city employees, city partner organizations, and local leaders. He then called up the rest of the members of City Council for presentation of the 2025 Make A Difference Awards. We were honored to recognize Compassion 360 and Bill Baumann as the 2025 Make A Difference Award Winners.
Finally, we watched the 2025 State of the City video and heard some more from the Mayor. Every achievement in Ridgefield is built on the strength of our community. Our State of the City video highlights the goals we are pursuing together and the shared vision driving us forward. Watch the video

March Council Action Highlights
City Council Advocates for Ridgefield in Olympia and Washington D.C.
Ridgefield City Council members recently traveled to Olympia and to Washington, D.C., to serve as advocates for the Ridgefield community, ensuring that local priorities are heard at both the state and federal levels.
Each year, the City of Ridgefield sets an agenda to advocate for key projects that support infrastructure, public safety, and overall community well-being with state and federal legislatures. City Council members play a vital role in this advocacy by traveling to meet directly with lawmakers, building relationships and championing Ridgefield’s needs. Their personal engagement strengthens the city’s voice and helps secure resources critical to Ridgefield’s growth and success. Learn more
Downtown Parking Plan Adopted March 13
On Thursday, March 13, 2025 City Council adopted a Downtown Parking Plan to open up additional parking capacity in the downtown core and address a host of issues related to parking; traffic, bicycle and pedestrian circulation; accessibility and safety. Staff will implement the plan in Spring 2025.
This project has involved several rounds of consultation and collaborative problem solving with downtown businesses, residents, and Ridgefield Main Street. The changes create an estimated gain of 20-30 spaces in the Downtown Core Area, for a total of 270-280 spaces. Learn more
Approval of Roundabout Committee's Recommendation on the Pioneer Street and Discovery Drive Roundabout
At the March 27 City Council meeting, Council considered two recommended options from the Roundabout Committee for center island design for the Pioneer Street and Discovery Drive Roundabout, currently under construction. The options both included native plants and vertical metal sculpture. After discussion, Council approved Option No. 1 with adjustments including raising the pedestal height and increasing the amount of shrubbery to create a full appearance. Council Considering Changes in Parking Regulations on Portions of S Taverner Drive and S Cispus Way
The proposals being considered are:
- Establish a no-parking zone along the storm pond on the west side of Taverner Drive between Harrier and S 23rd Way
- Modify the parking/no-parking zones along S Cispus Way from S Taverner Drive to Sevier Road
These changes are being considered to improve school bus travel around the sharp curve on Taverner Drive, improve sight distance for pedestrians and vehicles and alleviate the issue of vehicles parking in front of the community mailboxes.
Council will be considering these changes at the meeting on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 PM at the Ridgefield Administrative and Civil Center, 510 Pioneer St, and on Zoom. Your input is important! Public comment is welcome in person and online.
If you have questions about these proposals, please contact Engineering and Capital Director Chuck Green, Chuck.Green@ridgefieldwa.us.
