To enhance public safety and improve traffic flow, the City of Ridgefield has implemented two temporary speed limit reductions on high traffic roads. These changes are effective immediately and will remain in effect until scheduled improvement projects are completed.
Temporary Speed Limit Reductions:
- Pioneer Street (Royle Road to 56th Place): Work Zone speed limit of 25 mph. This segment is currently a constrained work zone with heavy construction equipment and high traffic volumes for the Pioneer Widening and Discovery Drive Roundabout project. The reduction is essential for the safety of both workers and the public navigating this area and will stay in effect through the end of the Pioneer Widening project, approximately June 2025.
- Royle Road (S Wells Drive/15th Street to Hillhurst Road): Speed limit lowered to 30 mph. This change addresses rough pavement conditions, roadside berms and vegetation that limit sight distance, as well as the presence of pedestrians and cyclists traveling to and from the nearby high school. This reduction will stay in effect through completion of Phase 3 of the Royle Road Corridor improvements, approximately 2026-2027.
These measures are in response to staff and community concerns for motorist, cyclist, pedestrian and worker safety. Crews will be correcting regulatory signage to reflect the change. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and adhere to the new speed limits in these areas to ensure the safety of all road users.
The City of Ridgefield is committed to maintaining a safe and efficient transportation network for all community members. These temporary reductions will remain in place until the necessary infrastructure improvements are completed in each respective area.
