Construction Site Stormwater Runoff Control

Construction activities can be a major source of sediment, debris, and pollutants in stormwater runoff - especially when soil is exposed or materials are not properly contained. To protect local water quality, the City of Ridgefield requires construction sites to use Best Management Practices (BMPs) that prevent stormwater pollution before, during, and after ground-disturbing activity.

Who Needs to Comply?

All construction sites in Ridgefield that disturb soil, clear land, or install impervious surfaces must follow local and state stormwater requirements. This includes:

  • Single-family home construction
  • Subdivision and commercial development
  • Utility or grading work in the right-of-way

Depending on the size and nature of the project, a construction general permit issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology may also be required.

Resources

The City of Ridgefield partners with Stormwater Partners of Southwest Washington to provide regional construction stormwater education and resources. Their website offers practical tools to help contractors, builders, and property owners stay in compliance with local and state stormwater regulations during construction.
