[ARCHIVED] Mayor Onslow Issues Proclamation Recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Ridgefield

Officer Debiak holds up the 2024 Ridgefield Police Pink Patch

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness of this complex disease. For some, the pink ribbon month is a chance to show support, and for others it is a reminder of a disease that forever changed them.

On Thursday, October 10, Mayor Onslow proclaimed October 2024 as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” in Ridgefield, encouraged all residents to recognize the seriousness of this condition, show support for patients who have battled the disease, and urged all women to get a cancer screening.

The proclamation was presented to Pink Lemonade Project, a long-time city partner and local non-profit, that works to educate, empower, and support all communities affected by breast cancer with education, mammography and treatment access programs, financial assistance, support groups, and community connections.

During the presentation, Chief Cathy Doriot provided information about the Pink Patch Project, which Ridgefield Police Department is participating in for the seventh consecutive year in 2024. Chief Doriot brought the 2024 limited edition patch and talked about the awareness magnets on police and city vehicles and pink City logo shirts worn in all City offices on Wednesdays. She also shared that sales of the patch are going very well, and if anyone would like a 2024 patch they should “act quickly.”

The Pink Patch Project is first and foremost about awareness, helping people to understand the risks of breast cancer and guiding them to take actions toward early detection, but it is also about providing financial support toward breast cancer research, treatment, and support organizations. All proceeds from the sale of pink patches will be donated to Pink Lemonade Project to support their work in our community.

You can support the Pink Lemonade Project by purchasing the 2024 Ridgefield Police Pink Patch at Ridgefield Floral, Brewed Awakenings – Ridgefield, Ridgefield Hardware, BevRidge Public, Taps Beer Reserve, Lava Java, Seasons Coffee, or Ridgefield Police Department.
