[ARCHIVED] Andy Marvitz Sworn in as Sergeant

On Thursday, May 26 Andy Marvitz took the Oath of Office as Sergeant with the Ridgefield Police Department.

Sergeant Marvitz grew up in the area, graduating from Hockinson High School and then obtaining a Bachelors in Criminal Justice from Washington State University. His law enforcement career began as a reserve deputy with both the Clark County Sheriff’s Department and the La Center Police Department. In 2014, he was hired as a custody officer with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. Marvitz accepted a position as a full time police officer with the La Center Police Department in 2015. In 2018 Sergeant Marvitz joined the Ridgefield Police Department (RPD) as a police officer through lateral recruitment.

Sergeant Marvitz has received the life-saving award twice in his time as a police officer. He fills many roles within the RPD, including as a field training officer, active shooter response instructor, instructor for Run-Hide-Fight training at Ridgefield and La Center High Schools, and an active participant with the Traffic Safety Task Force. Marvitz also serves as a board member for Kindness 911, a local non-profit organization connecting law enforcement and fire agencies with those they directly serve. At RPD Sergeant Marvitz is known for his close attention to detail keeping his patrol car, named “Jolene,” spotlessly clean.

“Sergeants are effectively the backbone of the department and must demonstrate knowledge, discipline, and exceptional communication skills,” said Chief Doriot, “I am excited for the addition of Sergeant Marvitz to join our leadership team and I am confident that he will exemplify the key qualities of sergeants and will serve in this new role with honor and integrity.”

After taking the Oath of Office, Sergeant Marvitz’ wife and son pinned his sergeant badge.

Congratulations on your promotion Sergeant Marvitz!
