[ARCHIVED] Ron Onslow Retires from Ridgefield City Council

Ron Onslow is presented with ceremonial Key to the City of Ridgefield

On Thursday, January 9, Mayor Ron Onslow attended his last meeting as a Ridgefield City Council Member.

The room was filled with colleagues, friends, family and admirers who came to celebrate his remarkable contributions to Ridgefield’s success over the last 18 years. Representatives from the Port of Ridgefield, Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue, Clark Regional Wastewater District, and the City of Battle Ground joined the community in showing their appreciation for his leadership and service.

City Manager Steve Stuart presented Mayor Onslow with a ceremonial “key to the city shaped by his vision and leadership” symbolizing his critical role in creating the Ridgefield of today, as well as a commemorative photo collage wall hanging, honoring his time on the Council.

Mayor Onslow’s passion for public and community service, and unwavering commitment to Ridgefield have left a strong mark on the city. We extend our deepest gratitude and best wishes as he embarks on this next chapter. Thank you, Mayor Onslow!

In Ridgefield, citizens elect at-large Council members to four-year terms and Council members select a Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem at the first Council Meeting of every even numbered year. Since Mayor Onslow is resigning mid-term for both the position of Mayor and Position 1 on City Council, the Council will select a new Mayor at their next regular meeting on Thursday, January 23, and will begin the process to appoint a new citizen to Position 1 on Council next week. If you are interested in serving your community on the City Council, please consider applying for appointment.

Onslow’s resignation is effective today, January 10. Mayor Pro Tem Matt Cole will serve as acting Mayor until the Council’s next regular meeting, on Thursday, January 23.
