The City of Ridgefield is excited to announce the creation of the Ridgefield Youth Commission, a new way for young people to have a direct voice in local government. This is a unique opportunity for students to share input on issues that matter to them, work with community leaders, and help shape future policy.

What the Youth Commission Does

Each year, the Youth Commission will take on an important topic by working with experts, gathering input from peers, and developing recommendations to present to City Council.

For the 2025–2026 term, the Commission will study E-Bikes, E-Scooters and similar devices. These devices have quickly grown in popularity, especially among teens and young adults. Alongside the excitement, however, there has also been an increase in accidents, near misses, and safety concerns. The Youth Commission will research the issue, explore possible solutions, and prepare a report with recommendations for the City Council. Their work may result in updates to local regulations.

Who Can Join?

The Ridgefield Youth Commission will have nine voting members and up to three alternates. Alternates will attend meetings and take part in discussions.

  • Term Dates: November 6, 2025 – September 30, 2026
  • First Meeting: Expected between November 10–20, 2025 (members will set the regular meeting schedule together)

At the time of application, members must:

  • Be enrolled in school within the Ridgefield School District, OR live in the Ridgefield Urban Growth Area and attend a different educational program (another district, private school, or homeschool).
  • Be in or entering grades 8–12, or the equivalent age if not in a traditional program.

Apply Today

The application window is open now through Monday, October 20.
